Obituary

Mr. Wayne L. Ray, in his 61st year, "Drove up the King's Highway" on Monday, January 12, 2015 from Muskogee, Oklahoma.

Life began on October 5, 1953 in White Castle, Louisiana for Wayne Lee Ray, the loving son of Lawrence Vernon Stewart, Jr., and Lucille Ray.



Better known as "Peacock" or "Suga Ray", Wayne grew up in Louisiana. He attended Job Corps and in 1969, he enlisted in the United States Army until his Honorable Discharge.



While in Job Corps, Wayne learned brick masonry as a trade and later became a truck driver. He was self employed as a truck driver for 30 years, based with Texas Star Express.



He enjoyed sports and was an avid San Francisco 49ers fan and San Antonio Spurs fan. Deacon Ray loved people, he loved to smile and eat. He loved his family, friends and his Church.



On September 25, 1999, he married Tonie Ray and they shared 14 years of marriage.


He was preceded in death by his father, and three siblings, Calvin Stewart, Peggy Keller and Brenda Davis.



He leaves to lament his death; his loving wife, Tonie Ray; his children, Keisha Burnstein, Fabian Williams [Jason] and Sheri Ray [Jamar Simmons, REagan Thompson, Erica Parks and Eric Parks, Jr.; his mother, Lucille Daniels; his siblings, Deborah Lights [Johnny], Naomi Williams, Wanda Keller [Roy], Linda Ray, Arlene Daniels, Shirley Mae, Sheryl Daniels, Mary Louise Daniels, Dorothy Daniels, Robert Daniels, Louis Stewart [Lois], Donald Stewart [Lois], Alex Stewart [Danisha], Ivy Paul Stewart [Jammy Barrie], Wardel Stewart [Jacqueline], and Stanley Stewart; fourteen grandchildren, his closest friends, Joseph "Joe Pro' Simpson, Vernon "Rocky" Hampton, Roy Bellock, Rev. Ronald Haynes, Rev. Herman Green, Tunay Stalks and Charles Watts; along with other relatives and friends.

The final salute for Mr. Ray will be on Saturday, January 24, 2015 at 10:00 A.M. in the most Holy sanctuary of the Greater Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, 701 Altamont in Muskogee. The Pastor, Reverend Vanzelen G. Brown, Sr., will officiate and Reverend Larry Brown will give the Eulogy.

Burial will be on Monday, January 26, 2015 at 10:00 A.M. in the National Cemetery at Fort Gibson, Oklahoma.

You may visit Mr. Ray, as he slumbers in peaceful repose on Friday, January 23, 2015 at the Wake held at Greater Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church between the hours of 5:00 PM and 7:00 PM ONLY.
