Mr. Wilbert Lewis, after Three Score Years, surrendered his soul on Thursday evening, July 21, 2005 from Saint Francis Hospital in Tulsa.
Better known as "Bimp" by family and friends, Mr. Lewis was born in Okmulgee on June 29, 1945, the son of Preston and Earnestine [Turner] Lewis, Sr. He grew up in Okmulgee and was a graduate of Historic Dunbar High School, class of 1962. He served his country in the United States Army and also attended Oklahoma State Tech.
Mr. Lewis was a member of the First Baptist Church – Central and recently retired from Kelco in Okmulgee. He was a devoted family man; he loved his family and the time he shared with them. He was also a self-proclaimed cowboy, enjoying riding his horses and the annual Rodeo in Okmulgee. He will be missed by all who knew him.
He leaves in God's care; his loving wife, Geneva, of the home; his son, Jerod; his daughters, Michaelle Johnson, LaTrisha Lewis, both of Okmulgee, Victoria Crowder & Stanley, Dallas, Texas and Vickie Jordan & Sidney, Tulsa, Oklahoma; his brothers, Sterling Lewis & Charlie Mae, Beggs, Oklahoma, Herbert Lewis, Sr., Leonard Lewis and Steven Ray Lewis, all of Okmulgee, Dr. Jerry Lewis & Gail, Yukon, Oklahoma, Derek Lewis & Lana, Tulsa, Oklahoma and James Lewis & Amanda, Dallas, Texas; his sisters, Helen Figures, Tulsa, Oklahoma, Lurleen Owens, Upland, California, Pauline Brinkley & Leroy and Ireather Rice & Bees, all of Okmulgee and Cheryl Cooks, Tulsa, Oklahoma; 18 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; and a caravan of other relatives and many friends.
The final hour for Mr. Lewis will be held on Saturday, July 30, 2005 at 11:00 A.M. in the First Baptist Church-Central. His Pastor, Reverend P. W. Jackson, Sr., will officiate. Burial will follow in Our Lady of Grace Cemetery. You may visit "Bimp" as he slumbers at the Keith D. Biglow Funeral Directors, Inc., in Okmulgee on Friday from 10 AM until 7 PM. His grandsons will serve as casket bearers.
