Obituary

Wilford was born October 16, 1951, on a windy sunny Tuesday in Pierce, Oklahoma, to Ethel Greenleaf and Alford Battice Mitchell. There were six children born to this union of which he was the third child. He was lovingly nicknamed "Wolf" for his hearty appetite. He spent his early childhood on the dusty roads of the Pierce community fishing, hunting bullfrogs, and crawdad (crayfish). He enjoyed riding horses with his siblings, cousins, and uncles. He had a fierce passion for shooting pool and had mad skills. Ask his brother, Gregory, and other competitors.

He completed his school years at Checotah, Oklahoma, before going into Job Corps in the state of Texas. Wolf worked in the construction industry as a concrete finisher/contractor and bricklayer. He played an instrumental role in building many homes and other structures under the mentorship of his uncles, Gano, Raymond, and Jack. Wilford retired from the construction business due to a decline in his health.

On Monday, June 6, 2022, at the age of 70 at Saint John's Hospital in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Wilford transitioned from this life after a courageous and determined four-year battle with brain cancer. His favorite response when asked about his health was, "God got me." Many hearts were saddened today for the loss of a brave person and friend.

Wolf was preceded in death by both parents, two older brothers, Alford and Herbert, and his beloved daughter, Dana Mitchell.

Wolf is survived by three daughters, Arica Smith-Mitchell, Deanna Mitchell- Mcullom of Muskogee, Oklahoma, and L'ashana Williams of Tucson, Arizona; stepdaughters, Chris and Debbie; stepsons, Earl Wayne and Rocky Lee Butler, all of Muskogee, Oklahoma; son, Keyron Mitchell of Eufaula, Oklahoma; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; siblings, Naomi Clayton, Sharon Pearson (Paul), Vickie Childress, Audrey Reeves, Tracy Crump, all of Oklahoma City, Lillie McNeal of Eufaula, Oklahoma; Darryl Lynn Miller: beloved faithful sister, cook, and confidante, of Checotah, Oklahoma; Gregory Mitchell, his best friend and companion, the Cheech to his Chong, Jimmie Toliver (Charlene), devoted brother and wingman, Johnnie Mitchell, Dennon Mitchell, Richard Todd Mitchell, all of Oklahoma City; a special brother, Richard Allen Simon (Kathy) Tulsa, Oklahoma;
beloved aunt, Margorie Khan of Stockton, California; special nieces, Adrienne Parker (Rev. William L. Parker) and Monica Pearson, both of Oklahoma City; an awesome great-niece, Nikole Toliver, AKA Panky, of Checotah, Oklahoma, who tirelessly completed household chores in support of his illness; she thoughtfully painted a headstone for his deceased dog, Izzy, when she met with an untimely automobile accident. Wilford was very thankful for the many acts of kindness from all his family and friends.

A special thanks to long-time buddy, Angie, rider for the entire journey. Wilford's family and friends will miss him dearly and know that life will not be the same without him but are incredibly grateful to have had so many years with him.
