Willa Marie Fonville was born April 12, 1945 in Tulsa, Oklahoma to the proud parents of Major and Bernice Roberts Fonville, the first of five children. Her father and a nephew, Michael Darryl Fonville, preceded her in death. Willa professed her faith in Jesus Christ and was baptized at Paradise Baptist Church under the leadership of the Reverend A.L. Branch. She attended Charles S. Johnson Elementary School where she excelled in her studies, winning the spelling bee for the school and placing 10th in the state spelling bee contest. She attended Carver Junior High and Booker T. Washington High School graduating with honors in 1963. Willa attended Pittsburgh State College and Tulsa University.
In 1964, Willa was employed with Southwestern Bell Telephone Company and worked in various positions. She advanced with the company as it changed to American Telephone and Telegraph (AT&T). She accepted each challenge presented to her, continually advancing as she was promoted and moved from Oklahoma to Missouri to New Jersey where she retired as a systems analyst. Upon retirement, Willa continued her career working as an independent contractor with telephone companies. Her last move was to Plano, Texas where she relocated to be closer to her family and work in a viable market.
Willa will always be remembered for her positive outlook on life and her cheerful smile. She had a passion for people and enjoyed reading, traveling, and developing close friends wherever she went. On September 13, 2007, Ms. Fonville surrendered her soul to her Father in Heaven. She leaves to cherish her precious memories: her mother, Bernice Fonville, three sisters; Mary Fonville, Beverly Hector, Tulsa, OK., and Emma Jean and Otis Kelly of Dallas, Texas; one brother; Claude Fonville, Tulsa, OK., two nephews; Willie and Eva Hector, Warner Robins, GA., and Rodney Fonville, Tulsa, OK., along with countless great nephews, nieces, cousins, and devoted friends.
