Obituary Wil l ie Edward L yons was born on January 2, 1949, in Okmulgee, Oklahoma. He was the sixth child of fourteen born to Rufus Joseph Lyons, Sr., and Gussie Marie Lyons (Sloan).
As a child, he was christened into Uganda Martyrs Catholic Church. During his childhood, his family moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma, where he attended Douglas Elementary School, Marian Anderson Junior High School, Booker T. Washington High School, and Okmulgee Technical School.
He retired From Tulsa County District after many years of dedicated service, a job he truly enjoyed. On December 18, 1970, he became a proud father of a baby boy, Dewayne Edward Lyons.
In 1974, he married Anne Snowball, and to this union together they raise five children.
On December 16, 2016, he married Mary Lou Garrett; they were both members of Eastside Baptist Church in Haskell, Oklahoma. They enjoyed traveling together and spending leisure time with grandchildren family and friends. Family was always important to Willie. He enjoyed fishing and spending time with his children. Willie was loved and cherished by the many he ministered to as well as those in need, and he shared his love of Christ with others. His kind and loving spirit will be deeply missed by all.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Rufus Joseph Lyons, Sr., and Gussie Marie Lyons (Sloan); previous wife, Anne Lyons; son, Dewayne Edward Lyons; four brothers, Herbert, Rufus Jr., Leonard, and Carl; and two sisters, Margie Byers and Mary Smith.
He leaves to cherish his memory: his wife, Mary Lou Lyons of the home; six daughters, Alethea Carroll of Copperas, TX, Danita (Melvin) Jackson of Pembroke, IL, Roma (Tony) Presley of Boynton, OK, Cecilia Shells of Muskogee OK, Saundra Blackmon (William) of Boynton, OK, and Denise Blackmon of Muskogee, OK; three sons, Roland (Paola) Carroll of San Tan Valley, AZ, Herman Blackmon (Kim) of Salsbury, NC, Richard Blackmon (Tammy) of Tamecula, CA; four brothers, Roy (Myretha) Lyons of Haskell, OK, Lester (Cassandra) Lyons of Beggs, OK, Charles (Sandra) Lyons of Tulsa, OK, and Frederick Keith (Kim) Lyons of Tulsa, OK; three sisters, Linda McCoy of Ft. Worth, TX, Vivian (James) Holmes of Tulsa OK, and Barbara (Lamont) Harrison of Haskell, OK; one aunt, Wilma Wilson of Kansas; 34 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins,
and friends.
Mr. Willie Edward Lyons, in his 72nd year, passed away on Saturday, September 4, 2021 from Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Funeral service for Mr. Lyons will be on Saturday, September 11, 2021 at 2:00 PM in the First Baptist Church of Haskell His Pastor, Reverend John Sells, Eastside First Baptist Church, will officiate. Burial will follow in the Doyle Cemetery, Yahola, Oklahoma, just west of Taft.
You may visit Mr. Lyons, as he slumbers in peaceful repose at the funeral home in Muskogee on Friday from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM.
