Obituary

Mrs. Zedora Smith, a resident of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, entered the Gates of Heaven on Thursday morning, June 2, 2016 from Oklahoma City.

Zedora was born in Boley, Oklahoma on November 14, 1929, the second of four children to George and Mazell Gissandaner. The family moved to Idabel, Oklahoma in 1937. She attended Booker T. Washington High School where she graduated Valedictorian in 1947.

Zedora began working for the State of Oklahoma in February 1982 and retired in January 1995.

Zedora's gentle manner and sweet personality endeared her to everyone she met. Nevertheless, she was an extremely strong and resilient woman (Proverbs 31). And because she never seemed to sit still very long, she was affectionately called "Lil Zip". She loved to read, and complete zigsaw puzzles and Seek-a-Word puzzles. She rarely missed Wheel of Fortune or the Evening News. She was very fashionable and a meticulous housekeeper. Zedora also enjoyed gardening,

She was a faithful member of the Greater Mt. Carmel Baptist Church in Northeast Oklahoma City for over 50 years and served on the Senior Usher Board for many years

Her parents George and Mazell Gissandaner, and two of her siblings, Lonnell Gissandaner and Armetha Franklin preceded her in death. Her brother Waymon Gissandaner resides in Edmond, Oklahoma. She leaves to cherish her memory her three children: Georgia Hamilton of Desoto, Texas, Rich Smith (Denise) of Walnut Creek, California, and Dewayne Smith (Andrea) of San Jacinto, California; four grandchildren: Dewayne Marquis Smith, Ian Smith, Cameron Smith and Taraji Smith; and one great grandson Zaidyn Smith, various nieces and nephews, a grand nephew, cousins and a host of other family and friends.

The Hour of Remembrance for Mrs. Smith will be shared on Monday, June 13, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. in the Greater Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, 3720 N. Staton Drive, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Dr. K. Gerone Free, Senior Pastor, will Preside.

Burial will follow in the Arlington Memory Gardens in Midwest City, Oklahoma.
