Obituary

On July 25, 1928, a bouncing baby girl was born to Gaston and Florence Bond in Brownsville, Tennessee. They named her Zelma Kate, and was the youngest of 9 children. Zelma was educated in Brownsville and Memphis, Tennessee. The family later moved to Detroit, Michigan where she grew up. She accepted Christ at a young age. Zelma and her former husband, Rev. Cornelius Jefferson moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma where they became members of Saint Andrew Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev, M.V. (Dad) Ferguson. There she was a faithful member where she served as Youth Choir Director, Sunday School teacher, and Missionary. Rev. Cornelius and Zelma formed a group called the Christeaires. Zelma continued working in the church as she later moved back to Detroit where she united the Saint James Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. Charles Knicks. She was a faithful member of the choir, served on the mother's board and catering service, and worked in the kitchen at church. Zelma became home sick so she moved back to Tulsa, Oklahoma in 2000. She united with the Metropolitan Baptist Church under the leadership of Dr. Ray A. Owens where she was a faithful Sunday school member and an outstanding church member. Mother loved meeting people. Zelma was preceded in death by her parents, 2 brothers, 6 sisters and her late husband Robert Jones. She leaves to cherish her memories 2 daughters: Gayle Jackson and Etoyce Johnson of Tulsa, Oklahoma, 2 sons Harold Jefferson of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and James Williams of Detroit, Michigan. Her closet friends, Deacon Brewer of Detroit, Michigan, Greddie Palmer, Eddie Colter, 20 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren and 3 great great-grandchildren, Pontiac Michigan family, Carolyn English, Kawani, Darnell and a host of church family and friends.
