Obituary

On June 18, 1932, as the summer day began, Chester and Blanche Miller were blessed with another baby girl, adding to the Taft Township. They named her Zelma Lee Miller. She was the fifth child of nine siblings in the family.

Zelma attended and graduated from Moton High School in Taft with a cosmetology license. During the early years of life, she became a member of Mount Pleasant African AME / Peters Chapel AME Church, where her grandfather was once the Pastor.

Zelma married James Otis Lowe, also known as "Chick" at the age of 18. There were no children born to this union.

Zelma enjoyed baking, puzzles, gardening and spending time with her family as well as involvement in the community. After becoming ill, she showed that you can't keep a good woman down; she became the "Cookie Lady" of Taft, loved by children and adults.

Sister Zelma Lowe was called to Glory on January 9, 2011. She was preceded in death by her parents, Chester and Blanche Miller; her loving husband, Otis Lowe; four brothers, Chester, Columbus, Coydell and David; four sisters, Justine, Anna Mae, Mae Liza and Dorothy; along with several nieces, nephews and others.

Those remaining to cherish her memory; her brother and friend, Reverend Hosie Lee Miller and Mary; along with four generations of nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Ceremony will be conducted in the New Life Ministries of Taft, Oklahoma on Saturday, January 14, 2012 at 2:00 P.M.
